The “Sport-Chic” Shift: How to Master 2026’s Most Expensive-Looking Trend

If you’ve noticed women lately looking effortlessly elegant in sneakers and joggers… but somehow still looking expensive, you’re seeing the new Sport-Chic trend. And no, it’s not the old “I just left the gym” look.
In 2026, athleisure grew up. Think:
• structured pieces
• better fabrics
• clean lines
• neutral colors
• quiet luxury
The goal isn’t just comfort anymore. It’s looking like you could hop on a private jet… even if you’re just heading to the grocery store. 😉 And here’s the good news. This trend is perfect for women over 60! It’s comfortable and flattering, and it looks polished without trying too hard.
Let’s break it down into three easy pieces you can mix and match.
Pillar #1: Elevated Basics (Not Gym Clothes)
The biggest mistake people make? They wear actual workout clothes. Sport-Chic is structured comfort, not stretchy spandex.
Look for:
• thicker knits
• tailored joggers
• ponte pants
• luxe tees
• matching sets
These fabrics hold their shape. They skim the body instead of clinging and they instantly look more expensive.
Try these:

Style tip:
Pair a structured pant with a simple knit top and clean sneakers. Add sunglasses and a tote. Done. You’ll look pulled together in 30 seconds. Lol.
Pillar #2: Luxe Layers
This is where the “rich” part comes in. Layers make everything look intentional.
Instead of a hoodie, think:
• soft blazers
• cropped jackets
• long cardigans
• quilted vests
These pieces say “polished” without sacrificing comfort.
Try these:
Style tip:
Throw a blazer over joggers and sneakers. It sounds wrong, but it looks SO right. It’s that “she didn’t try, but still looks fabulous” energy.
Pillar #3: Sleek Sneakers & Smart Accessories
Shoes and accessories make or break this look.
Skip:
❌ worn trainers
❌ busy prints
❌ giant logos
Choose:
✔ clean white or neutral sneakers
✔ leather bags
✔ simple gold jewelry
✔ oversized sunglasses
The vibe is minimal. Less fuss = more chic.
Try these:

Style tip:
A nice bag instantly upgrades everything. Even joggers look designer with a structured leather tote.
Easy Outfit Formulas (So You Don’t Have to Think)
Here are a few “grab and go” combos:
Morning walk + errands
Ponte pants + tee + cardigan + white sneakers
Lunch with friends
Joggers + long sleeve tee + blazer + crossbody
Travel day
Matching pants + top+ sunglasses + tote
Why Sport-Chic Works So Well After 60
Let’s be honest. We want to look nice… but we also want to breathe. This trend works because:
• waistbands are forgiving
• fabrics stretch
• shoes support your feet
• silhouettes are flattering
• everything mixes together easily
You look current without looking like you’re trying to dress 25. If you try just one thing this season, start here: Buy one great pant. Add one luxe layer. Finish with clean sneakers. That’s it! Sport-chic is basically comfort but elevated!

Great post. It is always nice to have comfortable and easy to put together clothes. Especially when travel8ng. I have the Athleta Brooklyn Ankle pants in dark and light colors. They are wonderful for travel.
I am glad you have lights and heat now. The weathet has been bad in so many places. I am in Atlanta and so far no ice. Just really cold and sometimes windy.
Hope you thaw out soon. Stay warm and safe.
Thank you! My Atlanta peeps say the winter mix may be heading your way. Stay safe!
Hi Lisa, Love the posts. I bought my new leisure set at a place one wouldn’t guess – Ron Jon Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach, Florida. I found it last year and bought one for my 33 year old daughter and it looks great on both of us. Ours are dusty blue with a 1/4 zip top. The fabric is so soft. I also bought a light cream 1/4 zip from Old Navy and it goes with everything and great for airplane rides even in the summer.
Thank you again for the great posts.
That’s awesome! Those sets with a modern sneaker and a good bag are perfect. Instant put-together and easy look. Thanks for sharing!
This is such a good post. I love it all. Athleta slacks are so comfy. I love the Endless and Brooklyn and the Athleta wrap is my cozy go to. It is rough when the weather dictates it’s safer to stay in but the stir-crazy is the real deal.
Preach! We tried to get out today but no luck. 🙁 MAYBE tomorrow.
We live in rural middle Tennessee. I have not been out of the house since Friday. We are going crazy. I usually like to walk in the snow but there is 5 inches of ice on top of the snow. So I have kept my hind end in the house. I can’t fall and break any bones. I told my husband I would have loved a pizza. I wish I lived close to you. I would play pickle ball with you. Take care and love reading your suggestions.
Same! I told my husband that the next ice storm would have me heading to the local community center to sleep. They have a pickleball court! I’m in Jackson County. Where are you?
Super! Breath of fresh air looking toward spring. As always, terrific suggestions.
I can not wait!! My first winter in Tennessee in 30+ years and it’s been a doozy. I may have to relocated every January from now on. 🙂 Thanks for reading and commenting!
