The “Sport-Chic” Shift: How to Master 2026’s Most Expensive-Looking Trend

If you’ve noticed women lately looking effortlessly elegant in sneakers and joggers… but somehow still looking expensive, you’re seeing the new Sport-Chic trend. And no, it’s not the old “I just left the gym” look.
In 2026, athleisure grew up. Think:
• structured pieces
• better fabrics
• clean lines
• neutral colors
• quiet luxury
The goal isn’t just comfort anymore. It’s looking like you could hop on a private jet… even if you’re just heading to the grocery store. 😉 And here’s the good news. This trend is perfect for women over 60! It’s comfortable and flattering, and it looks polished without trying too hard.
Let’s break it down into three easy pieces you can mix and match.
Pillar #1: Elevated Basics (Not Gym Clothes)
The biggest mistake people make? They wear actual workout clothes. Sport-Chic is structured comfort, not stretchy spandex.
Look for:
• thicker knits
• tailored joggers
• ponte pants
• luxe tees
• matching sets
These fabrics hold their shape. They skim the body instead of clinging and they instantly look more expensive.
Try these:

Style tip:
Pair a structured pant with a simple knit top and clean sneakers. Add sunglasses and a tote. Done. You’ll look pulled together in 30 seconds. Lol.
Pillar #2: Luxe Layers
This is where the “rich” part comes in. Layers make everything look intentional.
Instead of a hoodie, think:
• soft blazers
• cropped jackets
• long cardigans
• quilted vests
These pieces say “polished” without sacrificing comfort.
Try these:
Style tip:
Throw a blazer over joggers and sneakers. It sounds wrong, but it looks SO right. It’s that “she didn’t try, but still looks fabulous” energy.
Pillar #3: Sleek Sneakers & Smart Accessories
Shoes and accessories make or break this look.
Skip:
❌ worn trainers
❌ busy prints
❌ giant logos
Choose:
✔ clean white or neutral sneakers
✔ leather bags
✔ simple gold jewelry
✔ oversized sunglasses
The vibe is minimal. Less fuss = more chic.
Try these:

Style tip:
A nice bag instantly upgrades everything. Even joggers look designer with a structured leather tote.
Easy Outfit Formulas (So You Don’t Have to Think)
Here are a few “grab and go” combos:
Morning walk + errands
Ponte pants + tee + cardigan + white sneakers
Lunch with friends
Joggers + long sleeve tee + blazer + crossbody
Travel day
Matching pants + top+ sunglasses + tote
Why Sport-Chic Works So Well After 60
Let’s be honest. We want to look nice… but we also want to breathe. This trend works because:
• waistbands are forgiving
• fabrics stretch
• shoes support your feet
• silhouettes are flattering
• everything mixes together easily
You look current without looking like you’re trying to dress 25. If you try just one thing this season, start here: Buy one great pant. Add one luxe layer. Finish with clean sneakers. That’s it! Sport-chic is basically comfort but elevated!

Hi Lisa,
Love this post on the sport chic trend! The look is so much more appropriate for running errands or dressing comfortably while traveling. I agree that the skintight leggings and form fitting tops are for the gym only. And even then, I’ve worn my looser fitting athleasure pants there as well. Perfectly comfortable to work out in. BTW, I have a great product I’d like to share. It’s the Restoration Foot Balm by The Naked Bee brand. I’ve been using this clean product for about two years now and it works so well! And, I notice it’s made right in your home state in Kingsport! So easy to use in a roll on tube. No mess.
Awesome! I’ll include it in the newsletter on Friday!
This post has some great ideas!! Thank you.
Thanks, Kathie! I appreciate you reading and commenting!
This is a look I’ve really been embracing! I have and love that exact Varley set as well as a couple of Spanx sets. Comfy but intentional looking!
That Varley set is gorgeous! I’m embracing this style, too!
Great post, thank you! Love the 3 easy formulas.
Glad you found them helpful! Thanks for taking the time to comment. 🙂
I love this post! Many great ideas for pulling things together quickly. I love the easy outfit formula you list! I wrote them on an index card and posted them in my closet so I won’t forget lol I think I will add a jewerly formula as well then I will be all set! I love this blog thank you so much. I also love Ponte
Great idea! 🙂
Great suggestions. This is a “look” that might really work for me at this time. Hoping you are able to get out tomorrow. It will feel so good. Here in Illinois, it is still so cold. But not dealing with the ice like it sounds you are. That’s dangerous stuff! Take care.
Thank you! It’s supposed to reach 33 degrees today so that’s our window. Fingers crossed.
I like it!!!!
I would not be caught dead leaving the House in Leggings or athleasure clothes.
But I really like this style, especially since I cannot wear my regular beloved Jeans right now due to a recent Surgery. Thank you for this post!
Yay! I’m a fan, too. It’s easy chic, but so comfy!
Great post! I really like the outfit options at the end.
Thanks, Kathy. I’m a list person, so I like it spelled out for me. lol
I am just starting to embrace this trend, so I was thrilled to see your post today. I always look forward to reading your blogs!
Thanks, Mary. I think the recent trends – this one and the bracelet stacking- are my faves.
Great post, I agree it only takes a little more to look our best.
Thank you, Audrey! Some days that little bit seems harder than others, but I try. 🙂
