By the time most of you read this, I’ll be packing up my computer and heading to my brother/builder’s house. I’m helping them out by staying at their house while they run around doing errands. And by “helping,” I mean working between occasional dips in their pool. 🙂 It’s the only way for me to get cool since we’ve had a bit of boat drama this week. JD and I were driving on Sunday when he looked at me, completely serious, and said, “I’ve got so much going on. I thought I’d give you the fuel pump to go put on the boat. Honestly, you could do it.” Yes, by all means. Let’s give that job to the woman with no mechanical experience who’s been nicknamed “Calamity Jane.” 🙄 I’ve learned one very important lesson over years of going to the lake: You NEVER go when there are mechanical issues. Not unless you want to spend your afternoon sitting in the hot sun waiting on a tow. Rachel, bless her, had yet to learn that lesson. |

She and JD went to change out the pump, and afterward they took the boat for a quick drive to make sure everything was working. It started fine. Then it began to buck and cough. They stopped, and Rachel said, “I think I smell smoke.” For. Real. JD pulled up the engine cover, and a cloud of black smoke rolled out. He yelled for Rachel to grab the fire extinguisher, which, of course, was empty, and just as Rachel was putting on a life jacket to jump overboard and let the captain go down with the ship, JD spotted the problem. A bottle of power steering fluid had somehow gotten underneath the cover and melted against the engine. So off they went, limping and hiccupping back to the marina, still trailing smoke, which I’m sure was very reassuring to everyone within viewing distance. JD was right about one thing, though. I could have certainly done THAT. |

So many people love Tommy Bahama, and I started thinking, “What do they do when summer is over?” Turns out, Tommy keeps on doing his thing! |

This is the jacket that started me thinking. 🙂 Love the color, but it's available in lots of others. |

I went looking for straight-leg jeans and I was shocked at how hard it was to find them in stock. They're a fave, I guess. These Spanx run small and being Spanx are already tight, so you may want to go up a size. On sale! |

sunscreen is always a good find. And this one has fancy stuff like lipids and green tea, too. |

This is my first pair of Tom's sneakers, and I love them! They are so comfortable. I wore them all day today and my mom had to remind me that I might want to change because I was headed to the barn. Good call, Mom. |

My Style – Chico's Fall Transitional |

This is the time when I look for items that I can wear into fall. I think all of these pieces would work well alone, or underneath a cute vest or jacket. |

Living Well Tip of the Day |

Use the "Left-Side Lie" to Settle Your Body for Sleep The Restful Position: When you get into bed or lie down to relax in the evening, roll onto your left side. Draw your knees up slightly toward your chest into a comfortable, relaxed position, and rest a soft pillow between your knees to keep your hips and lower back aligned. Why it works: Lying on your left side takes advantage of your body's natural internal anatomy. Because your stomach sits on the left side of your abdomen, this position keeps stomach acids lower than the esophagus, reducing late-night indigestion and acid reflux. Furthermore, it takes pressure off the inferior vena cava (the major vein returning blood to your heart), encouraging smooth vascular circulation and signaling to your autonomic nervous system that it is time to slow down and rest. |
